First it was the fishing channel and now it's Fishare, a new app for those that like to fish and, well, share. The start up out of Finland is launching tomorrow at Arctic 15, an exclusive venture and technology event focused on technology companies only in the Nordics (and Estonia).
Fishare is as simple as it sounds. You take a photo of the fish you caught, add the location of that mighty catch and share it with your friends. Simple, not simpler.
Don't think there is a market for it? Guess again, in the United States alone, there are more than 40 million anglers. It's the fourth largest sporting industry in the world turning over about $45 billion annually as opposed to camping gear which comes in at $1 billion annually.
This appeals to me since I grew up fishing with my grandfather on Clarks' Hill in Georgia. He knew every spot where the best fish were lurking in the lake, but I can assure you, he never wanted to share that with anyone.
